Psychiatrist (Contractor)

The essential functions include:

  • Work with clients- ages 5- adult
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of new clients
  • Prescribe psychiatric medication in accordance with applicable California state laws
  • Order and oversee appropriate lab testing related to prescribed medications
  • Provide consultation to treatment team and supervisors associated with the client's program
  • Availability to meet with Division Director on an as needed basis
  • Meet documentation deadline in accordance with funding guidelines throughout the course of service at the agency
  • Serve as liaison between pharmacist and agency when needed
  • Work with pharmacist to get insurance approval for medications ordered 
  • Consult with pharmacist when needed re: side effects, drug interactions, use of generic or formulary medications.
  • Be available for emergency calls on 24/7 basis and arrange coverage when he/she is unavailable to agency
  • Work with staff in emergency involving client exhibiting dangerous behaviors to self or others
  • Respond to calls regarding medication reaction, side effects or errors which may result in emergency intervention
  • Hours Worked: 8-20 hours weekly


  • Medical Doctor Degree from an accredited or state approved program that meets criteria for licensing as a psychiatrist
  • Maintains good standing with the appropriate licensing board to provide psychiatric treatment
  • Knowledgeable of the prevailing governmental laws and regulations regarding the provision of mental health services, including confidentiality and limits thereof, the reporting of child abuse/neglect, and related regulations
  • Maintain required licenses and certifications to perform role
  • Prior experience with severely emotionally disturbed children, transitional aged youth
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Valid California driver's license
