The essential functions include:
- Bill for mental health services rendered to appropriate revenue entities and multiple insurance payors using integrated billing systems, while adhering to established deadlines
- Accurately enter, post, and reconcile payments, ensuring proper reimbursement for services provided
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies in reimbursements
- Identify and follow up on issues related to progress notes inconsistencies, including denials, eligibility issues, unbilled services, and billing violations
- High volume of claim follow-up calls to insurance carriers
- Research account issues daily using various insurance reports and Department of Mental Health (DMH) SIFT data
- Use tools and resources to provide accurate estimated reimbursements and policy recommendations
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies in all billing activities
- Provide necessary client information to therapists and supervisors as needed to facilitate billing processes and ensure accurate documentation
- Participate in special projects initiated by the Department of Mental Health, other revenue entities, or the financial services office, including audits and financial reconciliations
- Review and file mental health documentation and correspondence in compliance with established deadlines, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
- Contribute to the Health Information and Analytics Department policies and procedures manual, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards
- Attend Health Information and Analytics Department meetings and other internal/external meetings as required, providing insights and updates on billing activities and relevant issues
- Undertake any other duties as required by the organization to contribute to the efficient functioning of the billing department and overall organizational goals
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATES
- Minimum 2 years' experience in Medical Billing - Preferably CA Medi-Cal or Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Programs
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bilingual in Spanish Preferred, not required
