Position Summary
We're looking for a strategic and visionary Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to lead all fundraising, communications, and community engagement efforts. As a key member of our executive team, the CAO will shape and execute a comprehensive advancement strategy that grows revenue, builds brand awareness, and deepens donor and community relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing Advancement team, overseeing fundraising, marketing, communications, and volunteer engagement
  • Design and implement multi-channel fundraising strategies including major gifts, capital campaigns, corporate/foundation grants, annual giving, planned giving, and special events
  • Oversee branding, PR, and marketing efforts to elevate Hillsides' public profile
  • Partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, and program leadership to align advancement efforts with strategic priorities
  • Cultivate and steward major donors, community partners, volunteers, and former Board members
  • Supervise development of compelling proposals, case statements, and donor collateral
  • Drive strategic use of data and donor analytics to evaluate and improve fundraising performance
  • Manage department budget and oversee systems for donor records, gift processing, and stewardship

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit development, philanthropy, or external relations
  • Proven success in securing major gifts, managing capital or endowment campaigns, and leading donor engagement strategies
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit marketing, branding, and communications
  • Experience working with Boards, executive leadership, and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • CFRE certification a plus
  • Valid CA driver's license, clean driving record, and personal auto insurance required
