Starting Salary Range: $18.00-$23.30 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, supervised role-playing methods, or by reading aloud in both English and Spanish, and with the use of interpretation services for all other languages spoken in the classroom.
  • Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment of respect and rapport to ensure a positive learning experience for youth with diverse backgrounds
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Provide guidance to child care counselors who are supporting classrooms
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Schedule and proctor Education Assessment's for newly admitted client's within ORR required time frames.
  • Interpret results from Educational Assessment and complete an Education Plan for each client to submit to the teacher for review.
  • Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories, and assist students with hardware and software use.
  • Take class attendance and maintain attendance records.
  • Assist teacher with preparing weekly progress reports and input grades/ recommendations for clients.
  • Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Provide general support to the teacher
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Prepare lesson outlines and plans in assigned subject areas and submit outlines to teachers for review.
  • Supervise students in all activities
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior
  • Engage in recreational and/or therapeutic sports activities with clients as needed
  • Able to drive for prolonged periods, stretch, reach, push, pull, bend, carry, lift, run, and walk
  • Assist in daily transition from cottage to school, and school to cottage, for students and clients of Hillsides
  • Clean classrooms.
  • Document behavioral incidents that occur in the classroom in accordance with Hillsides reporting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with uploading all education plans in the UAC portal in a timely manner
  • Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual in Spanish Strongly Preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a congregate care or education setting.
  • Background in education instruction and/ or support; experience with students from culturally diverse populations
  • Valid California driver's license, driving record and personal vehicle insurance acceptable to Hillsides' insurance carrier
  • Be able to show proof of immunization or immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route, including Varicella, MMR, Tdap, & Influenza. Reasonable accommodations to vaccination requirements available to employees who, because of a sincerely held religious belief, a medical contraindication, or a disability, do not receive some or all of the required vaccinations.
